CU Denver Political Science Department Chair and Associate Professor, Dr. Tony Robinson, recently appeared on KGNU Colorado's political talk radio show, Connections, to speak about the Republican National Convention.
Connections host, Kathy Partridge welcomed the guest panelists including: Dr. Tony Robinson, Jim Banks, and Claudia Craig. Then the group tackled the first question on Trump's nomination: "How did it come to this?"
Dr. Robinson was ready with an answer: group apprehension in a shifting time.
"What we're really seeing here is a deep and profound demographic anxiety on the part of those people that are supporting [Trump] - which in large is older, white Americans whose whose country is changing under their feet."
Dr. Robinson went on to explain that this segment of the electorate has dropped by about 25% in the past 12 years, while other demographics - such as more diverse, younger populations - are on the rise.
